The Kansas Head Start Collaboration Office (HSCO), Kansas Head Start Association (KHSA), Kansas Department of Education Early Childhood Team (KSDE), Kansas Children’s Cabinet and Trust and Kansas University Center for Public Partnerships and Research (CPPR) are joining together to host a Kindergarten Readiness Summit.
Summit Goals are to:
Identify examples of effective kindergarten readiness practices.
Expand and enhance relationships between early all childhood programs and school districts to support kindergarten readiness.
Provide tools, supports and information to strengthen kindergarten readiness practices.
Successful kindergarten transitions have been on the radar at both the community and state level in Kansas. Schools, Head Start and early childhood programs in many communities are working together and others are in early stages of forming partnerships to create plans for smooth transitions for children, families and education systems.
The 2019 Kansas Early Learning Systems work across the state revealed that parents want easy to navigate and accessible systems and resources. A well designed and maintained early childhood to kindergarten transition plan is one way a community can respond to this need.
This Summit will provide the opportunity for bringing communities together who are at various stages in their transition to kindergarten development process:
Explorers – Individuals who are interested in learning more about transition planning.
Pioneers – Teams from communities who are in the early stages of a transition plan development process.
Developers – Teams from communities who are well on their way with their plan development.
Activators – Teams or representatives from communities who have a solid plan in place.
We hope you can attend so that we can share transition information with you as well as learn from your current practices!
