When the Children’s Campus of Kansas City formally opens Tuesday,
early childhood experts from across the world will be watching.
Inside
the three-story, $15.5 million building in downtown Kansas City, Kan.,
several social service groups will focus on at-risk children and their
families. And while the nonprofit agencies will have different offices,
they will hardly work in isolation.
The Kansas Promise Tour, sponsored by KAC, brought together state and local early
childhood
education professionals and supporters in a show of unity against the
proposed
cuts to the state’s Children Initiative Fund, which provides funding for
programs such as preschool, Smart Start and Parents As Teachers. Last
month,
lawmakers in the Kansas House and Senate presented budget proposals that
included cutting up to $12 million from the CIF.
